Note that bereavement services or grief counselling are also avail- able, for those dealing with the loss of a loved one. In addition, should support from a member of the clergy be desired, pastoral outreach can be provided. Many of the clergy associated with this program are retired Canadian Forces Padres or Royal Canadian Legion Chaplains who are familiar with military life and the challenges often faced while transitioning to civilian life. O’Leary, CD, Lieutenant- Colonel (Retired) graduated from Saint Mary’s University, Halifax with a BA in Political Science. He was granted a Commission in the Canadian Army and appointed to the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada. He served with the Regiment in Canada and Cyprus, after which he was posted to the Army’s Combat Arms School as an instructor where he remained until his Regimental Affiliation was changed to the Princess Patri- cia’s Canadian Light Infantry. In 1975 Paul was posted to National Defence Headquarters where he worked in the Intelligence Service. Shortly thereafter he joined the Intelligence Branch/Corps, and was posted to Washington, DC as an exchange officer with the US Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA). Intelligence positions in Ottawa, Saint Hubert, QC, and London UK followed, prior to his retire- ment after 38 years of service. Paul re-entered the Intelligence Func- tion shortly thereafter as a senior Civil Servant, and remained there for 14 years before retiring in 2014. Paul recently joined the AFP/AAC board and was elected its National Chairman in 2019. Daniel F. O’Connor, CD, BEng, LLB, BCL, MBA, Lieutenant-Colonel (Retired) had a military career which spanned 34 years, commencing with the West Nova Scotia Regiment while in high school. He earned a degree in electrical engineering at the Royal Military College in Kingston, then served as a signals officer with 2 Headquarters and Signal Squadron in Petawawa and the Canadian Airborne Regiment Headquarters and Signal Squadron in Edmonton. He was re-classified to the Infantry and commanded the Reconnaissance Platoon with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment in London, Ontario, and then attended the one-year Long Armour Infantry Course in the UK. He served as a Technical Trials Of- ficer at the Combat Training Centre in Base Gagetown, New Brunswick from 1982 to 1984, after which he transferred to the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Can- ada reserve unit in Montreal where he rose to command the Regiment as a Lieutenant-Colonel from 1989 to 1993. In 2009, he was appointed as the Honorary Lieutenant-Colo- nel of the Black Watch; in 2011 he became be the Honorary Colonel, a position that he still holds. Daniel currently runs his own law practice specializing in corporate and com- mercial plus intellectual property law and litigation. Daniel has served on the AFP/AAC board since 2010, first as director at large, then Na- tional Vice Chairman and interim National Chairman. He recently resumed his post as National Vice Chairman. Charles N. McCabe, OMM, CD, Lieutenant-Colonel (Retired) grad- uated from high school in New Glasgow, NS and joined Canadian Army (Regular) in 1956. He was commissioned into Royal Canadi- an Infantry Corps. From 1957 to 1981, he served in a variety of unit appointments with 1st and 2nd Battalions, The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada, and the 2nd and 3rd Battalions of The Royal Canadian Regiment, with postings in Canada as well as with NATO and United Nations forces in Europe and Cyprus. He is a Staff College graduate and paratrooper whose employment included serv- ing as an all-arms tactics instructor at Combat Arms School (Gage- town), the Brigade Major, Special Service Force (Petawawa) and as operations staff at NATO/Central Army Group Headquarters (Hei- delberg, Germany).
